A VALENTINE’S DAY BRUNCH TABLESCAPE

Hi again, friends. I hope you have all had a wonderful week so far.
It has taken me awhile to get back into the swing of things this year, but I have definitely been enjoying freshening up our home for the new season over the past couple of weeks. Though I usually feel a little sad after the holidays are over, there is just something about cleaning up and putting things away after Christmas that makes me feel so much more organized and relaxed. It also usually gives me a little boost of motivation (even if that’s often short-lived, haha) to get some projects done (just ask my husband, who has been hanging things on walls all over the house this past week or so… thanks, honey!). Do any of you feel this way, too?
With Valentine’s Day approaching, I thought it would be so fun to share some ideas with you on how you can get into the spirit of this often overlooked holiday. I am excited to be joining up with some talented bloggers who also have some great ideas for you to bring some festivity into your homes for the occasion. Prior to last year, I had never really put any thought into decorating for Valentine’s Day. Because I like neutral tones and bright whites, I think my mind just kind of dismissed it as a holiday with too much colour, in the form of bright pinks and reds, for me to think about integrating it into our home. However, as I have thought more about it, and grown in my decorating and creativity over the years, I have found you can still keep your home decor peaceful and calm, while bringing in some of those festive and romantic feelings for Valentine’s.
This week, I set up a little Valentine’s Day brunch tablescape that I hope will give you some inspiration and ideas for how you can celebrate this fun day with your family, significant other, or maybe even your girl friends.

As a foundation for my tablescape, I just used a very basic white tablecloth. Our current table is black (until we find time to build a new light wood one, like I want), and that doesn’t really work for me when it comes to having something feel airy and romantic, so I thought a breezy white tablecloth would be the perfect thing to use in this case.

Next came my place settings. For these, I just used two white plates and a light grey/taupe cloth napkin to add some texture (and because, well, you need napkins, haha). I chose to have one plate with some detailing on it, and kept the other plate more basic, to add some interest. As for my flatware, I thought using these gorgeous brushed gold pieces would be perfect for the special occasion.

For my glassware, I chose these detailed champagne flutes. Keeping with that romantic feeling for Valentine’s Day, I thought the detail on these glasses fit that theme well. Brunch usually means mimosas, but to keep with the soft colour scheme of the table I chose to just pour a nice prosecco, and then add a drop or two of hibiscus flower syrup in the glass to give the slightest pink hue and a tiny hint of sweetness. You could also do this with perhaps a sparkling pear or apple juice to keep it non-alcoholic, but still feeling fancy!

Now for my florals! This was something I had so much fun with. I was thinking about what I could do for a pretty floral centrepiece, and truth be told, it is difficult to find many good, fresh blooms and greenery where I live without ordering something specific ahead of time, and spending an exorbitant amount of money. I knew that I had collected a decent amount of faux flowers and greenery over the years, and I thought that I should definitely be able to create something with what I had on hand. So believe it or not, this arrangement is completely faux!

I went to my couple of storage bins of foliage, and pulled out anything I thought could work. I wanted to keep a soft palette, so I stuck with mainly white flowers and also got out a few soft pink/peach tones. I laid out my greenery and my florals on the counter, and then went to work just grabbing and putting together what caught my eye in the moment as looking pretty. And within maybe 2 or so minutes, I had the arrangement you see here! I love how it turned out, and how it adds that romantic touch to the table set up.

To finish off the table, I just added a couple more necessary things, like this wooden board that holds a simple cream and sugar set up, as well as the white ceramic tray of cookies for a sweet and festive treat.

I decided, last minute, to add these modern brass candle holders, because candles always add some romance, don’t they?

Once all of this came together, I felt ready to host a lovely little Valentine’s brunch!

I had so much fun putting this tablescape together for Valentine’s Day this year. I think it helped give me a little creativity pick me up as well!
